W. Somerset Maugham

I have been reading quite a lot of W. Somerset Maugham of late. I like his writing style; often narrating the entire story by being a key member. His short stories are really well written and versatile as he defines and describes his characters well. Even the surroundings he makes it come as if we are just witnessing them.
I have read couple of volumes f his short stories and three of his novels (cakes and ale, Razors edge and Of Human Bondage).
All the three are good, but I enjoyed Of Human Bondage the most. The character Phillip Carey (autobiographical) is one of the best created characters. And of course, Mildred! She is probably the best character in this story.

Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara

Last weekend, Yash, Abhishek and I went on a short trip to Kashid beach. Abhishek is getting married next month. So we thought let’s do it like Spain trip of trio Farhan, Hrithik, and Abhay from Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara movie. Of course, we didn’t have money to go to Spain and participate in Tomatino festival and the bull chase so we finalized on Kashid beach which was around 200 kms from Pune – a 3 hour drive.
So what did we do?
Had a nice drive to Kashid – Yash did the honours. He drove down and we passed through amazing scenery on the way. He also put some old chartbusters of Pink Floyd and Metallica. I was poor in understanding the lyrics of songs…so told him to put some Hindi songs…and after getting irritated he put on K L Saigal songs thinking that I would be tortured.  But after a while, when he couldn’t fathom that I enjoyed Ek bangala bane Nyaara, we both settled for Jee Le Zara from Talaash to save him from the third degree!!!
Getting accommodation – We just went there without doing any bookings. A drunkard helped us in getting a room…He called me…”JatinBhei hic hic hyac”. As a good gesture, we paid him little commission for Kesto’s act.
Beer all the way – I believed that this was the key reason for the trip! Abhishek broke four 650 ml London Pilsners; but more than that, he was injured. Some glass pieces had to be removed from his foot. Luckily, Yash had some first aid tool for that.
Beach time – We were there for half a day at the shacks (or whatever you want to call) and ate hot maggis. We performed Gangam style which would have beaten the original Psy records (maybe we put him to shame). However, there was hardly any crowd to put it on Youtube. Psy, thank us for not uploading the video… Your video still is number one watched youtube video!
Trekking – Trekked one hill which was almost perpendicular to the ground! Yash lost his Tupperware water bottle and was grumpy since then! (I believed that he was constipated but he finally told that bottle was the primary reason. He had got it as wedding anniversary gift from Reema. Wondered what happened when he reached home. On Monday I noticed he had a swelling beneath in right eye :) I didn’t have guts to ask him…why this mark!)
Had to cut short trip as Mr. Balasaheb passed away and we couldn’t go to Murud Janjira (one of the most invincible fort built by Shivaji Maharaj). Yash was hungry and couldn’t find anything to eat, so he drove at 130 kmph to reach Pune. Thank god, Abhiman was open and we had hearty wadapav chai breakfast!
Tour ends…

Solitude

On the cold chilly day
Walking with her in the meadows
Without any talk between us,
She seems to guess what I mean
Just her eyes says it all
No need of any speech…no need of any cliché’
Just I and her walking in solitude
Understanding each other
A Blink and a tear says it all!

"The best conversations happen when she listens to what you are not saying"

Ode to MBA

Sitting in the class of MBA
Is as weary as studying for CA
With mind roaming from Paris and Rome
To ours very own Taj’s dome

From Financial management; Khan and Jain
To marketing management; Kotler and Tain

Having some foolish seminars
And listen to stupid profs for hours

Coming back from reverie…
I still have to prepare the thesis!

Flashback-Date

Oops I did it again! I ejected, she started to laugh. I just wanted that to happen. Now it seemed that it shall be a really enjoyable evening today.

“Hey, its already 8 O clock, and we are still here, chalo take a seat”, I commanded like a army husband but she agreed dutifully.

Just the touch of her cold hand on my shoulder sent me shivers down the spine. I started to get exited….Is this the day I have waited for, which I thought always ever since she left me….I just pondered.

I kicked the machine and it started without throwing a tantrum.

“I thought, you still drive a SUNNY!

“Hmm..well, I actually sold it off”, I said dismally ”anyways it wasn’t giving any great milage”

“Smart decision”. It looked like she beamed by this sentence. “But, you could have bought ACTIVA …I think you told me that it’s the best vehicle around!

“ You still remember that talk”.

“Of course, why should I forget all the things?”

“But, you forgot me” I broke the ice, giving way for complete silence

There seemed to be only one sound we could listen-wind passing by feverishly
